This week’s quote is not from a book I’ve read this week, but from one of my favorites, Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King. It summarizes very well what I think about being a reader. It’s basically my Reader’s Ars Poetica. π
“Read sometimes for the story, Bobby. Don’t be like the book-snobs who won’t do that. Read sometimes for the words – the language. Don’t be like the play-it-safers that won’t do that. But when you find a book that has both good story and good words, treasure that book.”
— Stephen King: Hearts in Atlantis
Which kind of reader are you? Do you like to read for both the style and story, or do you go more for one of them? What is it that makes you read a book all through?
For me, what is important besides the things mentioned above, is character. I love character-driven books!
What do you think? I’d be glad to hear your opinions!
