Well, a little self-care and self-love doesn’t hurt when you’re always so busy and tired, so, like it already happened before, I fell again in the tantalising pit of the promise of Amanda Lovelace’s pretty popular poetry.
What I wanna say is… hm, I guess I’m…
…too old for this stuff.
There’s no other way that can explain why these so-called poetry books are so popular with – especially – the younger generation (though mine, too, so…I guess I’m an old soul)… It’s…okay. Fine. I get what it has to say. I’m also mostly familiar with all the feelings it conveys. It’s just…
It’s not really enjoyable for me as “poetry”.
These are simply thoughts written down, pretty much as they come out.
And that’s okay. I simply think it shouldn’t be considered poetry.
I must admit, though, that that’s mostly what I feel whatever “modern” poetry I happen to read. So, I guess I’m just too traditional for most of this stuff.
Amanda Lovelace’s books are actually wonderful, if you think of them as self-help books. Self-care books. Me-time books. They say what you feel. They say what you don’t dare to say. They deal with so many everyday problems and challenges and setbacks of young women/girls that they’re definitely worth a read.
But poetry… that means a little more to me.
Moreover, I feel like I read the same thing over and over again. (Read my previous reviews here and here if you want to check.) It was sweet to start with, but now I’m starting to get the feeling that it’s more marketing that something that has to be said – and at the beginning it was definitely not the case.
Anyways, if I have to rate it, I’d give it around 3 stars, but honestly, I don’t feel like rating these books anymore.
Have you read any of these poetry collections from Amanda Lovelace? I’m pretty sure many of you did. What did you think? How did you find them?
I’m dying to read your opinions here!
Hugs 🙂
