‘Bloom Where You’re Planted’ by Lasairiona McMaster

I’ve already featured this book, ‘Bloom Where You’re Planted’, before on my blog. That time unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to finish reading it, so I only posted a book blitz as part of the blog tour. Otherwise, here are my thoughts about it after finally having read it!

Discovery:

I’ve got this book from Rachel’s Random Resources for the purpose of the blog tour. I wanted to read it the moment I saw the blurb! It was exactly at the time I was moving abroad, so it seemed to be the perfect read for me.

Brainstorm:

This is a fun and easy-to-read book with many funny stories, but it doesn’t lack depth when it comes to the hard part of living in a foreign country. There were many things that I could relate to, though, to be honest, much less than I expected to. The differences came from the mere fact that I moved because of my own job (and my partner’s…which is the same, since we’re both doctors), I had to find my own job to get by, and the author went with her husband’s company. So, more difficulty on my part with finding a place (and not that much of an expat community), but at least in my case, it is completely my choice, and not my employer’s. Otherwise, there are many similarities.

I loved reading the most of this book, though I have to admit that by the end I was a bit bored. It didn’t get flat with time, it’s not that, but I felt it was a bit repetitive. I had the feeling “I’ve read that before”. All in all, this book is still a must read for anyone planning a move to the unknown.

The author talks to expats, a very unique branch of people. It’s a lifestyle, and it’s a feeling of life, a unique kind of perspective that most of the people doesn’t have.

All expats and people who’re thinking about becoming one.

Future:

I don’t know if the author plans on writing more books, but if yes, I’d give them a chance.
